Bees

The “Bee Series” explores plant forms that could have existed in prehistoric times, or in exotic corners of the world. Birds and bees are the foragers of the specimens which appear as though in fictitious field notes. The species are in a current struggle with each other and their altered environment of genetic modification, radiation and pesticides etc. Life forms of the past are imagined in a fantastic manner and painted in the 18th century style of “grotesquerie”. Plants of the present are portrayed as deceptively beautiful mutations devouring the bees. I strive to take the viewer on a botanical journey into a dreamlike setting, luminous, yet slightly menacing. These images are jewels and vestiges, a referential menagerie of natural signage that resonates with folk tales and legends of survival.
